10 delicious apple recipes, for any time - salad, main course and dessert. (2024)

Apple recipes are perfect for any time of year, but in the fall, when the apples are picked fresh and at their peak, you just can’t beat them.

Apples are wonderful because they are not only delicious, but really versatile as well. You can enjoy eating a crunchy apple fresh out of hand, make amazing dessert and snack recipes, and use them in savory main course dishes too.

There are so many amazing apple varieties to choose from it can sometimes be difficult to decide which apples to use. Some are best for cooking and some for eating fresh only. Some hold their shape when you bake them, while others get soft and juicy.

There is one apple you really shouldn’t try to cook with and that is a Red Delicious apple. They are perfect to eat fresh or sliced for a salad, but they don’t cook well and should always be eaten raw.

Gala apples, Cortland, McIntosh, Northern Spy, Ambrosia, Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Mutsu (my personal favorite for fresh eating too), Winsap, Pink Lady, Wealthy and of course, the green favorite Granny Smith are all apples that are suitable for both cooking and baking. Any of these apples would work perfectly in these recipes, so you can see that you have quite a few apple options to choose from. My advice is to choose apples to use in your baking and cooking that you also love to eat fresh.

Of course, I think that just about any apple is perfect. The sound of that crunch as you take your first bite of that lovely crisp fruit is the first sign that you will be able to enjoy that juicy sweet tart taste in just a second or two. Yum. Okay, I know it’s pretty obvious that I love apples. I do and I love the great variety of apple recipes that you can create with these juicy treasures too.

The recipes that I have included below are some of my favorites. They range from the simple baked apple to muffins, stuffing, cakes and strudels. We even have a beef stew, a pork casserole and chutney recipe in the mix.

You can do SO much with the lowly apple. Try out some of these recipes and see what I mean.
